3 Doors Down at Chevy Court on first night of the 2017 New York State Fair – Wed 8/23/17

Rock band 3 Doors Down returns to the Great New York State Fair to provide an exciting climax to the Fair’s earliest start in at least a century, Acting Director Troy Waffner announced today. The band’s 8 p.m. performance on Chevy Court will come on the first day of the Fair’s expanded 13-day schedule, Wednesday August 23rd, 2017.

Formed in 1995, Grammy Award-nominated multiplatinum Mississippi rock band 3 Doors Down consistently captivates audiences worldwide. The quintet’s many accolades include selling 16 million albums globally, receiving three Grammy nominations, and winning two American Music Awards. Their debut, “The Better Life,” became certified six-times RIAA platinum in 2000 and was fueled by the success of juggernaut hit “Kryptonite.” This was followed by 2002’s sophomore album, “Away from the Sun,” which went triple-platinum and saw similar success with “When I’m Gone” and “Here Without You.” 2005’s platinum “Seventeen Days” and 2008’s “3 Doors Down” each earned No. 1 debuts on the Billboard Top 200, while “Time of My Life” landed at No. 3 in 2011. Ignited by the single “In The Dark,” 3 Doors Down unleashed their sixth full-length album, “Us and the Night,” which debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 in 2016.

“We’re excited to begin this new day of Fair programming with such a great band. I know everyone’s going to love having one more day to enjoy the Fair and 3 Doors Down will bring that new day to a thrilling close,” said Waffner.

This will be the 3rd appearance at the Great New York State Fair for 3 Doors Down, having performed here in 2005 and 2011.

Concerts at Chevy Court are sponsored by Chevrolet.

The New York State Fair, operated by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, runs from August 23 to September 4, 2017. The Fair’s mission, reflected in its theme, “FIND YOUR GREAT,” is to showcase the best of New York agriculture while providing top-quality entertainment.

‘Beach Boy’ Brian Wilson to celebrate 50 years of the album ‘Pet Sounds’ at Chevy Court

pet_sounds

As the Beach Boys were my first concert a few, ok many years ago, this is definitely one concert I will be looking forward to! Songs from the album include Sloop John B, Wouldn’t It Be Nice, God Only Knows and I’m Waiting for the Day.

According to Wikipedia, Pet Sounds was the 11th studio album by the American rock band the Beach Boys, released on May 16, 1966. It initially met with a lukewarm critical and commercial response in the United States, peaking at number 10 in the Billboard 200, a significantly lower placement than the band’s preceding albums. Pet Sounds has subsequently garnered worldwide acclaim from critics and musicians alike, and is widely considered to be one of the most influential albums in music history.

The album was produced and arranged by Brian Wilson, who also wrote and composed almost all of its music. Most of the recording sessions were conducted between January and April 1966, a year after he had quit touring with the Beach Boys in order to focus more attention on writing and recording. For Pet Sounds, Wilson’s goal was to create “the greatest rock album ever made” — a personalized work with no filler tracks. It is sometimes considered a Wilson solo album, repeating the themes and ideas he had introduced with The Beach Boys Today! one year earlier. The album’s lead single, “Caroline, No”, was issued as his official solo debut. It was followed by two singles credited to the group: “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” (backed with “God Only Knows”) and “Sloop John B”.

Brian Wilson is set to perform on Monday, August 29th at 8pm at Chevy Court.twitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Snoop Dogg Cancels, Rapper Nas will perform instead on 9/2/15

nasThe NY State Fair announced earlier today that Snoop Dogg would not perform at Chevy Court on Wednesday, September 2nd as scheduled due to illness.  Within hours, Rapper Nas was announced as the replacement act.  Nas is known as one of the top rappers with iconic hip-hop hits like NY State of Mind, Nas is Like, and It Ain’t Hard to Tell.

I have to say I’m impressed with the Fair for finding a replacement on such short notice.  Nice work!twitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Jason Derulo to play Chevy Court Thursday, 9.3.15

JDeruloIt was announced today by acting fair director Troy Waffner that Jason Derulo, who wowed a large crowd at Chevy Court at last year’s NYS Fair, will perform again on the very same stage on Thursday, September 3rd at 8pm.  Derulo’s planned performance is in place of Meghan Trainor, who recently cancelled her entire tour in order to undergo throat surgery.twitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

27 Days until the Great NYS Fair! New Amphitheater – mixed feelings…

NYSFAIR ConcertsHi everyone!  I’ve been remiss with my blog updates but I’m baaaaccck!

So, we all know that advance tickets to the Fair are on sale and by now we know that Miranda Lambert will be the debut act performing at the new Lakeview Amphitheater, located away from the NYS Fairgrounds on Thursday, September 3rd, 2015. This is the same night that Patti LaBelle is scheduled to perform the last concert EVER at the NYS Fair Grandstand – the End of an Era.  It seems unfair to make fans choose but I suppose the thought process was to let folks who like Ms. LaBelle’s music enjoy her performance while the country fans (Blake Shelton fans included) pay big time to see Miranda over at the “New” place. Or perhaps Ms. Lambert’s schedule was inflexible?  Whatever the case, I feel the Grandstand should have been allowed to go out with a BANG!  This would in turn (in theory) create excitement for the new “replacement” venue across the highway.  I’m sure in time the new amphitheater will be the “it” place for concerts but for those of us who will be in the transitional stage, however long that lasts, it kinda just sucks. 🙁  #nysfair #lakeviewampitheater #nysfairgrandstand #changesucks #nysfairchangestwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail
