I think this is a FABULOUS idea! In fact maybe in the future it can be done on all days of the Fair. Many volunteers are needed for collection of the items so the days might be limited.
This year volunteers will be stationed at the entrance and in parking lots if you’d like to bring canned goods and non-perishable items to drop off. Per an article on Syracuse.com, Food Bank officials said the best items to bring are:

It was announced today by acting fair director Troy Waffner that Jason Derulo, who wowed a large crowd at Chevy Court at last year’s NYS Fair, will perform again on the very same stage on Thursday, September 3rd at 8pm. Derulo’s planned performance is in place of Meghan Trainor, who recently cancelled her entire tour in order to undergo throat surgery.
In addition to the traditional $1 potato with all the toppings (or none) offered in the Horticulture Building, this year the NYS Fair if offering a $1 Sweet Potato as well! YUM! There will be butter and sweet toppings available. If you can’t choose, have one in the morning and the other in the afternoon 🙂
Due to a medical issue involving her vocal cords, Meghan Trainor (“All About That Bass”) has cancelled the remainder of her summer tour which included a show at Chevy Court on Thursday September 3rd at 8pm. Which is a bummer for me as I was looking forward to going. 🙁
It’s almost New York State Fair time! Preparations I’m sure have begun to prepare the fairgrounds for thousands and thousands of visitors arriving Thursday, August 27th, 2015. I just WISH I had access to the Fairgrounds during the few weeks before Opening Day to document and witness the amazing transformation that occurs. (So if anyone has connections, let me know! 🙂
Not being a native “Syracusian” my fascination with the Fair has not dwindled. Not. One. Bit. I feel sad when I hear lifelong residents dismiss the Fair and basically take it for granted. I just love the action and excitement the Fair brings, there is never a dull moment! Not only does the Fair highlight local businesses and talent, it promotes New York State as a whole and shows visitors just what a wonderful place we live in!
Since my first trip to the NYS Fair in 1988 I have seen SO many transformations and many, many improvements. The Midway used to have 5 benches at most – now it has at least 30. The seating at Miller Court/Cole Muffler Court/Chevy Court has expanded and more and more picnic tables have been added to the coveted tree lined shaded grassy knoll in front of the Horticulture Building. Trash cans are emptied constantly and the bathrooms are cleaner than ever! (However, I still have my favorite clean-and-short-line-for-females favorites but that’s a different post)
So much more to come on this blog! Thank you for following 🙂
